Hosting Professional Development Hour Activities

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requires professional development hour (PDH) activities to  be developed and delivered in accordance with the Learning Forward standards which address teacher knowledge/skills related to teacher preparation or content standards:

✔    Illinois Professional Teaching Standards,

✔    Illinois Learning Standards for PK-12 students, or

✔   Preparation program standards in the relevant content area, and result in a positive impact on PK-12 student learning or well-being.

Units or individuals interested in hosting an activity to provide Illinois teachers with professional development hours will work with CoTE staff to arrange for teachers to receive documentation of their participation in a PDH activity.

PDH activity hosts will:

1.  Propose an activity (including a proposed agenda),

2.  Document teacher attendance and participation on a standardized spreadsheet that will be returned within one week after the event to CoTE, and

3.  Distribute a link to an ISBE-required activity evaluation form to all participants wishing to receive PDH.

After the event, CoTE staff will email an ISBE Evidence of Completion form to each participant who completed an activity evaluation.  Activity hosts will receive a summary of the activity evaluation feedback upon request.
